The Secret to Living a Bigger, Bolder Life

I am thankful to all those who said no. It’s because of them, I did it myself. ~Albert Einstein

Believe in YourselfIsn’t there something almost magical about the effect motivational stories have on us? You know the ones I mean. Stories about people who have risked everything to take a stand against injustice and in doing so improved the lives of countless others. And then there are the stories about people who, despite overwhelming odds, manage to achieve uncommon success and go on to create bold, inspirational lives most of us will only ever dream of.

So the question is, what is it about some people that enable them to find the courage to live bigger, bolder lives and make a difference in this world? Two very important things … somewhere along the line they developed a strong sense of self-belief.  And, here’s the biggie because intention without muscle goes nowhere . . . they took action.

Obstacles and challenges are an inevitable part of life, and that will never change.

Consider this … have you ever started the day bursting with energy and enthusiasm for all the things you intend to accomplish, only to end up losing momentum and slip back into the same old routine? We all do it. So why do we have such a tough time making meaningful progress?

Believe it or not, it is our own limiting beliefs – the stories we make up and believe about ourselves – that create our biggest obstacles.

Think of all the wonderful ideas you’ve had over the years for self-improvement, better career opportunities, a new business, improved living conditions, or ways to enhance your relationships. Notice how each of those ideas came to you with abundant energy, enthusiasm and excitement, yet for some reason you’ve never followed them through to completion.

If we really take an honest look at what gets in the way, more often than not, it is the stories we tell ourselves; the things that we have come to believe about ourselves that holds us back. This doesn’t mean that we are broken or require fixing, and it may only apply to certain areas of our life. It simply means it may be time to re-evaluate some of the self-beliefs that we have been holding on to.

Self-Belief is Essential

Simply put, our positive inner beliefs help us to achieve success, while the negative beliefs hold us back and limit our success. These negative, or self-limiting beliefs, get in the way of us achieving our goals, and if we don’t recognize and change them, they will interfere with our ability to reach our full potential and, over time, they become who we are.

Self-belief gives you the freedom to make mistakes and cope with obstacles by seeing them for what they are: temporary setbacks, not the end of the world. You have confidence that if you don’t have the information, skills, or knowledge that you need now, you do have the internal know how to figure out what you need to do to get it.

The good news is your level of self-belief isn’t set in stone. Anyone can learn to banish self-doubt, grow stronger, and become the hero of your own life story, but it requires purposeful action on your part:

  • Identify and begin chipping away at any doubts you have about yourself.
  • Overcome resistance to change – growth happens outside your comfort zone.
  • Develop confidence in your abilities by taking decisive action.
  • If you REALLY need to hear that perfect thing to motivate you, you need to tell it to yourself and BELIEVE it.
  • Adaptability replaces resistance and fear with peace of mind and clarity.
  • Embrace life – leave no room for regrets

Remember you were born into this world with no sense of what you could or couldn’t do. Then, bit by bit, life started to teach you to limit yourself. You have the power to strengthen your self-belief and begin living a bigger, bolder life anytime you choose.

Celebrate the day on which you choose to embrace the power you have to create your own life experience. It is an amazing journey – make the most of it!

self belief is essential – believing in the possible to the impossible..but a sense of having a go too and not measuring success in a limiting way..would you agree? I find that belief is based on expectation and past and that is so often based on a judgment of how it should have been or could have been – instead go forth and do and laugh a bit more at what happens is going to mean that your life becomes bigger and bolder….

It is said that we don’t have single mind, in-fact we have multiple minds. In night when we sleep, our one mind promises to wake up early in morning, but in morning, we wake up with different mind set and that mind simply refuses to wake up without any guilt.

Later we feel guilty that why didn’t I wake up in the morning, but we are simply unaware of the fact that we allow different minds to take different decisions at different circumstances.

I’m always being positive about life. Life is never easy, but I know that at the end of the day, ever little thing happens for a purpose. Each challenge we encounter make us become a better person each day.

Self-Belief and getting it done at any cost has to be one’s mindset. So many things can interfere our ability to get it done. These interferes are most likely avoidable and just serve as excuses. Usually on the road to success there are many walls and stumbling blocks to conquer. The question is do we have the resolve to overcome and succeed.

Thanks for sharing the great piece as always Marquita.

    Marty,

We make up most of the gibberish that goes on in our heads. I know I do and I have to catch myself from taking up my own silly cause. I think one of the hardest things to do as a human being it so control our thoughts. So much random shit comes across our consciousness that it becomes a contact battle to clear out the garbage to create the diamonds.

Nonetheless, we have the power to do so and when mastered then you’ll find those people to take up extraordinary causes with ease.

My pray for each of us is to keep our minds well tuned to separate the grain from the chaff, the gems from the dirt.

    Hi, Marquita,
The longer I live, the more I believe that hearing “no” can be a true blessing, so I really appreciate your quotation from Albert Einstein: “I am thankful to all those who said no. It’s because of them, I did it myself.” ~Albert Einstein

There’s a great book called “Getting Past No” by William Ury of Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation. It will help you fill your toolkit with skills to get to yes and “win” any negotiation. Saying “NO” gives people such a sense of empowerment. Have you ever watched a baby who has just learned that he can say no? He shouts it all the time.

I’m not talking about being recalcitrant, but I am talking about feeling confident and secure enough to say no when it is to your benefit to do so. That can lead you to really getting what you want and need.

Marquita great post. I love reading or hearing about how others have overcome obstacles and found success! I believe in the power that self disclosure has. Sometimes I have to review my own story to remind me of when I survived a crisis or when faced with a challenged pushed on.

      Hey Marty and Nick!

Funny how this post is the perfect complement to what Nick has read. Only you go into more detail. Woo Hoo….lets change the world lol

I have those days where I lose energy and sometimes don’t practice what I preach! But only for a short time. When I “fizzle out” I immediately give myself a “check up” Is it physical? Is it neuro-linked to those past voices in my subconscious?

No matter how long and hard I work on my subconscious mind, those “negative” voices do come up.

The thing is that I have to practice to Identify them. Once I do, I can sweep it away and deal with what I am doing to go forward.

What I’ve learned is that those nasty thoughts get shorter and shorter as I practice the many skills I have learned.

Thanks for bringing this up. It is an important issue to help those go forward!
