Time to Revisit, Rethink, Rejuvenate Goals
What simple action could you take today to produce a new momentum toward success in your life? ~Tony Robbins
It is hard to believe that yet another summer is coming to an end. With only a few weeks left, it’s time to start thinking about switching gears for transition into fall.
Some people view fall as depressing after a fun filled summer, but it’s also an opportunity to revisit our goals, rethink our priorities and rejuvenate ourselves in preparation to continue our forward momentum.
Life is an ever changing and continuously evolving state of existence, so periodically taking the time to revisit and adjust plans and goals, will have a significant affect on the pace at which you grow closer to achieving your dreams.
- Revisit: How many of the goals you set for yourself for the year have you completed and how do you feel about where you are on your journey to making your dreams reality? Are there steps you can take in the remaining months of the year to make progress on or achieve remaining goals? The most important thing to remember is not to judge, criticize or compare yourself to others when revisiting goals. If you’ve lost track of the goals you set for the year, trust me, you are not alone … but maybe there are a few short term goals that would help you get on track in the remaining months. One way to look at this period is as a launching pad to build momentum for a strong start to the New Year!
- Rethink: Are the goals you set for yourself realistic and still relevant to your life now? Do you feel as passionate about achieving your goals today as you did when you set them, or do your goals need to be revised? It really is okay to rewrite goals so they are more achievable … just make sure that your targets still challenge you in the process so you can remain motivated.
- Rejuvenate: Once you’ve revisited and fine tuned your goals, think about how you can ramp up your enthusiasm and expectations for success in a fresh and exciting way. Are there different approaches you can take to achieve your goals, or an especially meaningful reward you can set for yourself for achieving success?
A Word on Expectations …
One thing to keep in mind on your journey to success is that your expectations hold great power and can affect your ability to reach your goals.
Expectations affect your attitude and willingness to take action. Negative expectations taint your attitude, and can affect the intensity and frequency of your actions. If you avoid expectations all together simply in order to avoid disappointment … you’re not only choosing to relinquish your place in the driver’s seat of your life journey, you will see little point in working on your goals as diligently or passionately as you would if you were fired up with enthusiasm for the anticipated outcome.
When you’re motivated and inspired about your goals and expect them to bring forth a lucrative outcome, your determination will skyrocket and you’ll move forward deliberately and swiftly. You’ll know you’re going to be successful, so why hesitate?
Here’s to the power of great expectations …

Glad you enjoyed the article Amanda … I agree with you, after summer it’s natural to want to regroup and start thinking ahead. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I hope to see you back soon!
It is a must to revisit or even recall our goals for a clear explanation. Thinking once again will clear out what you want in life.

Marty. It’s too bad that we can’t read and have it indelibly branded on our soul at the same instant. This post is one that should be printed out and read each and every day. Not only setting your goals but also not beating yourself up if the small ones are missed along the way. Many, many people need to read this.
Thanks !

At some point in time, we should look back to the goals that we set before and think if they are still achievable as well as if we still need them at this particular time. It’s a good thing that you’ve mentioned this in your post. Sometimes, there are goals that are now not as important as they were before and they are some new ones that are more important. In my case, I’ll go for the new goals.
Hi Marty,
You are on fire, as usual! There is certainly good and bad news about expectations. They are so powerful–we do get what we expect. It’s tempting to lower expectations to protect our hearts but you have wisely pointed out the danger in that. If we ‘see little point’ in working on something, that is worse than the actual disappointment would likely be. And boy does that negative viewpoint suck the energy out of life. I choose to race with abandon to ward each milepost, expecting the best and laughing when something does meet my expectations. I credit my vivid imagination and keep right on running! Or walking, really q

Marty,
Yes, I have been following my goals. I am no longer attempting to do it all alone. I have been in a wonderful mentoring program, My Vision and Me, created by Ellie Drake from http://www.BraveheartWomen,com. In January, I attended her wonderful “Release” weekend at the Braveheart Mansion in Arizona. Now I have written a chapter in her Braveheart Women book that will be coming out the weekend of 11/11/11 at the powerful Rise event in LA.
Then I worked with Teach Jim, collaborating with fellow TSA members and others about becoming Profitable Producers. And then I connected with Kimberly West who helped me create my one year Marketing Plan (61 pages). This helped me to put all my disparate efforts online and elsewhere into one document, focused and apparent.
And now I am working with David Riklan’s team to help me set my global Healing Through Love program into motion.;
What I have discovered is that it takes much longer than expected and often costs much more than aniticipated. But the end results can be beyond our wildest dreams.

It is an absolute must to keep our visions in clear view. I say affirmations twice and day, as well as review my goals. Have also found some very motivating and inspiration mind movies. Your movie hit home more than once!

I believe that we should keep our expectations top of mind at all times. The distance between those who achieve their goals consistently and those who spend their lives and careers merely following has everything to do with one’s ability to go the extra mile. Where we find an instance of enduring success, we will also find that it was attained in part by the expectations behind it.
